Ratzan Weissman & Boldt is proud to announce that Partner Stuart J. Weissman has been elected as Treasurer of The Dade County Bar Association for years 2020-2021. Congratulations, Stuart!
The Dade County Bar Association is the largest voluntary bar association in Florida and serves as the voice for Miami-Dade County’s diverse legal community. Founded in the early 1900s, and officially incorporated in 1920, the DCBA’s goal is to support and inform the county’s lawyers, as well as the public and the community at large.
Below are some Q&As with Stuart Weissman and the DCBA:
Q: Why did you decide to run for the board of directors/volunteer as a committee chair?
"I was always so focused on the actual practice of law, and becoming the best trial attorney I could be that I never considered running for the board in my early years of practice. That remains a major focus, but I also realized I was missing out - missing out on the opportunity to give back to my community and growing my relationships in the legal community. The Miami Dade Bar provided me the ability to do both and eventually become a leader for the organization (first as President of the YLS and most recently as Treasurer of the MDB)."
Q: What do you love most about the practice of law?
"We typically represent "the little guy" and the victims of horrific injuries or families of those who have suffered wrongful death. In our practice, we have the power to give a voice to those who may otherwise not have it. We provide the opportunity for our clients to pursue their cases against some of the largest corporations in the world. And, beyond providing our clients with the justice they seek, we also strive to create change in our communities with each and every case we pursue."
Q: What do you love about the Miami-Dade Bar?
"I love that we truly do seek to have a community service component along with professional business development. In addition, we try to make things fun and creative with each event we put on."
Q: If you could do something other than practice law, what would you choose to do?
"Work in production for television or movies."
Q: Favorite Restaurant?
"So many to choose from, but: KYU in Wynwood"
Q: Drink of choice (Alcoholic or Non-Alcoholic)?
"Spicy Margarita"
Q: What is a fun fact about you that people may not know?
"I lived in NYC during my summers in college and worked for the YES Network which produced televised Yankees games and also worked for The McEnroe Show featuring John McEnroe which was on CNBC years ago (but got cancelled.....)"
