In the end of 2019, the Ratzan Weissman & Boldt Team obtained a verdict of $42.5 million against tobacco giants R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc.
Attorneys Stuart Ratzan and Stuart Weissman tried the case on behalf of a surviving husband and two children who claimed R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc. were responsible for the death of the family’s loving wife and mother. The family alleged, Jane Doe, became addicted to cigarettes during her teenage years as a result of the cigarette industry’s widespread fraud and misrepresentation regarding cigarettes and that her addiction to smoking cigarettes caused her to develop lung cancer which took her life in 1996.
RWB successfully argued that cigarette companies placed a dangerous and addictive product on the market and conspired to hide the dangers of smoking to Jane and millions of others.
Stuart Ratzan and the RWB team obtained a verdict of $42.5 million in November 2019, which includes $15 million in compensatory damages, $11 million in punitive verdicts against Philip Morris, and $16.5 against R.J. Reynolds.
The case is currently on appeal in the Third District Court of Appeal and will likely be set for oral argument in the coming months.
